「空間にやすりをかけること」
木の板にやすりをかけるだけで肌触りのよいテーブルになるように、空間に少しだけ手を加えることで身体と空間、そして周辺環境との関係をなじませることが出来ないかと考えた。既存のマンションは梁と柱、壁面の凹凸が多かったので、まず柱と梁をふかして線が少なくなるように整えた。また、廊下とリビングの間の扉を引き戸に変更することで、玄関からリビングまでが連続的につながるようにした。仕上げもそれにあわせ、漆喰の左官塗りで連続的に仕上げることで、漆喰のざらざらした質感がリビングから入る自然光を拾い上げ、廊下からもその光をやわらかく感じ取れるようにしている。リビングの小窓のある壁には一面に棚を作り付け、窓部分のみ背板を抜いて全周に鏡を貼ることで、窓との引きを作りながらもいろいろな風景が見えるようにした。また、外のバルコニーにはさっと素足で外に出られるようにウッドデッキを設置している。何か特別なことをするわけではなく、整理し（=file）、落ち着かせる（＝ down）ために、空間のそれぞれのパーツにやすりをかけるように整えていく（=file down）ことで、空間全体を家具的に仕上げられるのではないかと考えた。

"Filing the Space"
Like a wooden board that becomes a smooth table as it is filed, we try to find a way to blend human bodies, room and surrounding environments by adding a subtle touch to the room. The existing layout had unlevel surface with beams, pillars and walls. We first smoothed out the surface. Furthermore, by changing the door between the hallway and the living room to the sliding door, we created a continuous space from the front door to the living room. To reinforce the continuity, all the walls were plastered throughout. The rough surface of the plastered walls picks up the natural light and provides soft lighting to the hallway. The shelves are mounted on the wall with one of the shelves being a small window. The window shelf is panelｌed with mirrors that reflect various sceneries from outside. The wooden deck allows an easy access out to the balcony. In order to file (i.e. sort and organize) belongings and settle down the atmosphere, we thought of creating the entire room like furniture by filing (i.e. smoothing out) each part of the room ("file down").
